Paid Shoots, Trade Shoots, and Collaborations: What That Actually Means
Not all shoots are the same, and I’m very clear about that from the start. One thing that makes my approach different is that I explain why a shoot is paid, trade, or collaborative so models can decide what makes sense for them.
Here’s how I break it down.
If you reach out to me requesting a specific photoshoot or custom content idea, I would expect to be compensated in this case. The concept or theme comes from you, with my guidance and experience helping shape it into something polished and effective.
I bring extensive knowledge across different types of content and social media platforms, and I tailor the final results to match where you plan to post, whether that’s Instagram, personal websites, or other platforms.
I don’t have a fixed rate, and I don’t charge for the shoot itself. This is one of the key ways my process differs from traditional photographers.
After our session, you’ll receive a private gallery containing all of the photos and video captured. You only pay for the content you choose to keep. The typical price is $5 per photo or video, allowing you full control over what you purchase and how much you spend.
I believe this approach is transparent, flexible, and fair for everyone involved.
When I am compensated
When I reach out to propose a specific concept, I offer to compensate you for your time and participation.
Barefoot content is a core focus of my business and the foundation of my shooting style. I understand that this theme isn’t for everyone, and participation is always optional. If you’re comfortable creating foot-themed content that I can use for my brand, I offer $50 per hour for your time.
Please note that when a shoot is paid by me, the content is created specifically for my business. In those cases, models do not receive copies of the final material.
Everything is discussed clearly in advance so expectations are understood on both sides.
When you are compensated
A trade shoot, or commonly referred to as a “collaboration or collab,” is when no money exchanges hands. We both get content that we want, and we work together to achieve this. Let me explain it further and why it’s my preferred working arrangement.
If you love my artistic style, and want a specific theme that you love, you can get it without having to pay me. We’ll be a like a team of content geniuses. I’ll make sure you get the aesthetics and vibes you’re looking for, and it doesn’t have to cost you a thing.
This is beneficial to me as well because photography, models, gear, and travel gets to be expensive. So when we team up to achieve each others ambitions, it’s beneficial to both of us. And I will always welcome a trade shoot.
